“To be without a friend is to be poor indeed.”
– Tanzanian proverb
Our proverb this week comes from the region of Africa now known as the United Republic of Tanzania. Tanzania, in East Africa, is bordered by the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi and the Indian Ocean. This proverb reminds us all that there are many ways to define the words poor and poverty and that we should value people, especially family and friends, as much as we value treasure.
