Dion J. Pollard, better known as the Artist Dionja’y, is a native of Washington, D.C. He began his artistic career at the age of 13. Inspired by his brother’s drawings, he decided to give drawing a try himself. Initially, he would copy illustrations that he found in comic books but eventually, Dionja’y graduated from copying other people’s illustrations and started creating his own unique artwork. During this time Dion Pollard also began to try different mediums. Not only did he continue to draw, he also began to paint with pastels and began to try some digital painting techniques.
While in the 11th grade, his talent and work ethic earned him a scholarship to the Maryland Art Institute. Though he only attended the Maryland Art Institute for one year due to some challenges he faced in his personal and home life, he was able to learn some new skills and techniques and apply them to his craft. After leaving the Art Institute, the Artist Dionja’y continued to follow his artistic calling and allowed God’s blessings to flow through his veins. His first art show was a huge success. A collective of managers from Verizon, where he worked at the time, called D.R.U.M sponsored the event. This support group mentors young entrepreneurs and helps them develop, grow and maximize their talents.
Dion Pollard’s artwork celebrates life, hope and happiness. He draws his inspiration from his emotional journey through life. As he continues to develop his own style, he hopes that everyone enjoys his work and shares in his calling.
