Congratulations to Carter Paysinger on becoming the first African-American principal of Beverly Hills High School. The school he is in charge of is in the prestigious Beverly Hills area of California. Under his leadership Beverly Hills High School produced the highest test scores it has ever seen. Despite this landmark achievement, his tenure has not been without its own unique challenges. Carter has had to overcome alleged racial discrimination and even filed suit against the Beverly Hills Unified School District with the stated goal to “make sure no employee or student will ever again be judged by the colour of his or her skin.” His suit alleges unfair targeting and unequal financial compensation.
Though born in South Central Los Angeles, Mr. Paysinger is a former graduate of Beverly Hills High School. His mother managed to get him enrolled at Beverly Hills High and once there Paysinger excelled in school and sports. After college he worked at the school as a coach and physical education teacher and 20 years later he now heads this educational institution.
